What the council asks for (6)
- Licences are issued only to the company managing and using the scaffold; the scaffolder can't also be the applicant unless engaged directly by a householder doing the work.
- Both the scaffolder and the applicant need at least £10m public liability insurance (and £10m employers liability if they employ operatives); more may be required for some sites.
- Send regulated scaffolding association membership certificates or other competence documents.
- Send a sketch or plan showing where the scaffold will be.
- Choose one month or up to three months at the start: licence periods are not extended.
- Traffic management, footway or road closures need extra permits and lengthen the lead time.
In the council's words
“Payment for £223 for a one month licence and £319 for a three month licence, will be requested on receipt of the application unless your company has been approved for a monthly account.”
