What the council asks for (6)
- Licences are only issued to scaffolding companies with qualified (CISRS-accredited) scaffolders, not to individuals.
- Send the up-to-date accreditation of the on-site erector and the company's public liability insurance (at least £5,000,000; more may be required in some locations).
- Include a plan view of the site; scaffolding on separate named streets may need more than one licence.
- Scaffolds behind a hoarding on the highway also need a hoarding licence.
- Light the scaffold from 30 minutes before sunset to 30 minutes after sunrise and keep a clear passage for pedestrians (1.5m where possible).
- Trunk roads are licensed by National Highways (0300 123 5000).
In the council's words
“A payment of £260.00 will be required before the licence is issued... The licence is valid for 4 weeks and should you need the licence for longer than this period, an extension fee is charged at £130.00 every 4 weeks.”
